An airboat, can also be fancily called a fanboat

An airboat, can also be fancily called a fanboat, is a vessel that is used to navigate areas of shallow waters such as marshes and swamps. It is powered by a high performance motor, just like many other boats, but its propellers are not submerged; it is, instead, functions much like an aircraft’s propeller. Because it can easily move along shallow waters, it is a famous vehicle to cruise along the Everglades and other regions with the same topography. If you and your family wish to ride an airboat in the Everglades, here are some tips and strategies for a wonderful and unforgettable experience.

Safety should always come first; whether this is your first time on an airboat in the Everglades or not, keeping you and your family safe should be prioritized. Remember that this tour aims for observing wild animals, meaning these animals may or may not become curious of you should you unfortunately fell in the swamp. Check for the quality and condition of the airboat itself. Ask your guides (whom are expected to be professionals and knowledgeable) whether the boats are regularly inspected and properly maintained. It is better if the boats are checked every time before it leaves for a tour so you go ahead and ask if you can try checking out your ride.

The boat itself may be well-maintained and in its pristine condition but you can never tell the events that may happen. As you know, you will be in the “wild” and pretty much anything goes around. And if minor injuries happen, the boat should have a complete set of first aid kits and the medicine should not be near expiration. Communications should also be part of the checklist in case your boat gets tangled in the Winding Mangrove. Life vests (every passenger should have one) are a must, especially if you have little children on board.

Another thing to check is the weather because Florida is such a spontaneous place even the weather cannot be predicted. The weather tells a lot about the behavior of the animals and of the terrain as well. If it’s a bad day, probably strong winds or rain, even lightning strikes, don’t force touring the Everglades. Chances are, your boat might turn over due to strong winds and other unhappy events may follow; and the Miami tours animals will less likely be visible. Put aside your exploration should you encounter a bad bed weather.

An airboat in the Everglades Tours is indeed a popular ride because you can get into the deepest parts of the marsh. Tour packages including three or more tours can cost over $200 (minimum), although you can buy tickets specific for a certain event, for about $50 or less. But if you visited Miami for a complete tour, you can actually avail a tour package at a lower price.

Some situations may not be the ideal, but most would be breathtaking. Wherever you might be traveling, it is best to keep in mind the safety of your group. Even for adventurous people, preparation is still necessary because you cannot predict what can happen. An open mind is your best weapon (survival kit?) in the wild.
